HD Polyethylene as a FDA approved cutting board

On your next time you're going to be chopping fresh fruit against your chopping board, take the time and look at it, the material most likely to be used as a High Density Polyethylene Cut Grade Material - Sheets cutting board is Polyethylene. Given it is normally FDA and NSF approved along with stain, moisture and odor resistant, Polyethylene is the perfect choice for chopping boards.

UHMW, which has higher molecular weight (2-6 million) which allows for an even transfer over the length of material which makes it stronger, making it useful for bearing uses due to its great wear resistance. Typically employed in the food processing and dairy industry, UHMW is really a superb replacement for various industrial materials together with wonderful solution to many wear issues.   Each of these polymers are produced from the same polyolefin plastic materials family, but they all have certain properties that make them a little different. HDPE provides great chemical resistance, with higher impact strength and great energy absorption. LD Polyethylene has many of the same properties as High Density but it is not as dense at 9.15, the lowest in comparison to HDPE which is 9.34, in fact it is a softer material ( flexible coffee can lids). What's more, it features a lower tensile strength as well as better, much easier heat processing.
UHMW is a strong material that features great durability and low co-efficient of friction which makes it an ideal for sliding applications. One of the only plastic material with a lower co-efficient of friction is Teflon - PTFE; which has a higher temperature and chemical resistance. UHMW Polyethylene offers a wide range of material alternatives and properties,  and these types of materials include extraordinary strength which might be well suited for several applications.
